Motivation is overrated
If it was up to my motivation I would be watching netflix all day eating ben & jerry’s. Contrary to popular belief motivation is not some sort of magic that falls onto me and makes me get shit done. Although I wish that was the case, it isn’t. Things get done with dry old discipline, and yes even the most likeable tasks get boring after a while.
Our behaviour is driven by the desire to solve a problem. The problem could be that you notice something good and you want to have it. Other times the problem is that you experience pain and you need to relive it. Regardless of the purpose, all our behaviour is driven by solving problems we face. If you say you lack motivation, what it really means is that you don’t have a reason to behave in a particular way. You don’t need to go and look for a reason. The only thing you need to do is start, be just 1% better compared to yesterday. 1% better seems insignificant today, but over time this 1% determines who you are. Success doesn’t come from one transformative change, success is the result of small daily habits that you adopt to be part of your life. That means repeating certain habits over and over again in order to see the result, that is fucking boring I know. So why not enjoy the boredom?
